If you have never been in an auto accident before, you are surely hoping that your good luck lasts forever. But unfortunately there are very few people who make it through their life without ever being in an accident. There is a first time for everything, and your first auto accident can be a scary situation. There are a couple of tips that you can follow to make this bad situation less stressful.
First and foremost, you want to contact the local police regardless of how small the accident may seem. A lot of people decline to do this if they are involved in a minor fender bender. This often comes back to haunt them if the accident was not their fault. If there is no written police report on file, it is your word against theirs; many times resulting in the at fault party getting off without their insurance paying for damage to the other car.
Remember to always get the contact and insurance information of the other party. You will need this information when you call your insurance company to report the accident. Without this information they will not be able to process your claim. Also, be courteous by giving your information to the other party that is involved.
Finally, do not lose your temper. Getting upset is going to get you nowhere. Act very professional when dealing with the other party. After this you will not have to have contact with them any further, as your insurance company will take over.
These are just a few of the important tips to keep in mind when dealing with an auto accident. Unfortunately there is no way to practice, you just have to deal with this situation as it occurs.
